Switzerland is also known as "Confoederatio Helvetica", therefore the abbreviation CH. "Confoederatio" stands for "confederation", "Helvetica" derives from the Latin word "Helvetier", the name of the people who lived in the area which became later Switzerland. Switzerland is a small, landlocked country in the heart of Europe. It has a strategic location at the crossroads of central Europe with many easily traversable passes, The capital of Switzerland is Bern City, also the capital of the canton Bern. The castle-like Historical Museum of Bern is located across from the Old City houses on Helvetiaplatz. The museum possesses one of Switzerland´s most distinguished collections of history ranging from stone age to modern times. Lake Lucerne is somewhat reminiscent of a fjord landscape, yet it has a mild lake climate. Many people visiting Switzerland, travel to the city of Lucerne and than to the lake region. The Jungfraujoch is after the Matterhorn the second biggest Switzerland Attractions. At the Top of Europe, a whole new world opens up. From the Jungfraujoch, you can see Europe's largest glacier, the Aletsch Glacier. Of interest is also the Sphinx Observation and the glistening Ice Palace.
